Manage or be managed; it is up to you.

When first confronted with a diagnosis for a chronic condition like high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, arthritis or obesity etc. it can be a somewhat depressing and daunting task to figure out what to do next?

I'd like to suggest that the first step is to decide to take control by making a effort to learn about the condition; what makes it worse and what makes it better. Too many individuals do not take this first step to better understand how the condition came about in the first place. What role did genetics, environment, age and lifestyle play in the development of this condition? Taking an active role by being well informed is part of becoming a good self-manager of your own health and lessens the chances of being managed by it. Information is powerful and we should all be our own advocates no matter where we are in the process of coping with chronic conditions.
